Good Shepherd’s service focuses on social justice, food and housing insecurity, creation care, and equality. We serve those next door, in our community and urban area, and beyond. Wednesday movie & pizza nights throughout the year increase our congregation’s awareness of and inform our advocacy work on issues from immigration, LGBTQIA+ challenges, and preservation of the natural world to understanding the historical background that impacts equality issues today.

CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES

Food and Grocery Gift Cards Collected Sundays, August 2 & 9
Bring grocery gift cards to purchase perishable food or non-perishable food donations (see list below) for unhoused families whose children attend Walnut Creek Elementary School, the Cherry Creek School District elementary school with the highest percentage of unhoused students. Because the pantry has limited space please stick to these foods: Spaghetti sauce and pasta, canned tuna, pork and beans, chili, manwich sauce, shelf stable milk, mac & cheese, ramen noodles, Campbells or Progresso hearty soups, granola bars, fruit snacks or breakfast cereal.

FAITH IN ACTION TEAM (FIAT)

Good Shepherd’s service is organized by our Faith in Action Team. They prayfully consider where the Spirit is calling to serve as we strive to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the world. To choose where the church’s time, talents and treasure should be invested, the team members actively seek broad participation and engagement from members of all ages, both to choose the direction of our efforts and to serve as volunteers. FIAT usually meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm. Meetings are open to parishioners.   • Covenant Cupboard Food Pantry

    Distributions to neighbors experiencing food insecurity happen every Friday at the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in Greenwood Village as well as yearly supplies for Thanksgiving dinners. Contact Sherri Hesen for more information

  • Spread the Love

    Four times a year after the later service, members of all ages make 200 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for clients of Metro Caring, a Denver Food Bank.

  • St. Clare's Ministry

    Every Tuesday, St. Clare’s provides a hearty dinner and shopping at their clothing closet at St. Peter and St. Mary Episcopal Church in Denver. Donate clothing or volunteer with the Good Shepherd team on the third Tuesday of each month. Contact Susan Hall for for more information.

  • Giving Heart Englewood

    On Tuesdays and Thursdays, this South Broadway day shelter for unhoused and working poor provides a hot lunch, showers and laundry facilities, mail boxes and assistance with government forms. Contact Marilyn Taylor for more information.

  • Spring Vitalent Blood Drive

    Once a year on a Sunday morning in the spring, Good Shepherd hosts a blood drive in the Fellowship Hall.

  • Walnut Hills Elementary School

    Close to Good Shepherd, this school has the highest population of unhoused students in the Cherry Creek School District. During the school year, we donate snacks, backpacks and school supplies, and grocery gifts cards.

  • HAAT Force

    The Homelessness Awareness and Action Task Force South Metro provides vouchers for motel shelter and transportation to shelter during severe winter weather especially for families, people with disabilities, older adults, pregnant women and those with pets or service animals that are not allowed in congregant settings.

  • Episcopalians for Justice and Mercy

    Laity and clergy of the Diocese of Colorado engage in social justice ministry valuing an inclusive, multifaith, and mulitracial democracy for all, citizens and immigrants alike. EJM’s working groups — Advocacy, Material Support and Education — welcome new volunteers. Contact Mary Ann Panarelli for more information.

  • National Night Out

    An annual, nationwide event to promote neighborhood camaraderie and police-community relationships, Good Shepherd joins the Walnut Hills neighborhood’s celebration on the first Tuesday of August.

  • Project C.U.R.E.

    Medical supplies and equipment, no longer needed locally, are sent to medical providers around the world. Volunteers sort and prepare supplies for shipping. Contact Marilyn Taylor for more information.

  • Angel Tree

    In the weeks before Christmas, parishioners select angel ornaments with Christmas present requests to donate presents and gift cards for children living in our community.

  • FIAT Movie & Pizza Night

    FIAT hosts Wednesday Movie Nights throughout the year to further our congregation’s awareness and advocacy work on issues important to the parish. Share a meal and fellowship as we reflect on and discuss the issues of the day.
