Reaching Our Kids For Christ

IMG_2836.jpg

The goal of Children’s Ministries is to reach our kids for Christ. This includes offering Sunday school every week, with the exception of Easter and Christmas.  We offer Godly Play for children aged three years through 2nd grade.  The 3rd-5th grade students use Living the Good News curriculum which is liturgically based (it follows the church's teaching schedule).  Both Godly Play and Living the Good News are curricula that are designed to help students continue moving forward on their spiritual journey.

In addition to our weekly Sunday offerings, we have special events over the year that include an Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday, an All Church Picnic and special children’s liturgies in Advent and on Palm Sunday. Stay tuned for new event offerings.

Sunday Schedule

Each Sunday Good Shepherd offers a hybrid Sunday school program for children aged three years and potty-trained through 5th grade. Please be sure to take your children's personal belongings (such as coats, gloves, toys) with you to the Sanctuary.

  • Kids in Grades 3 and up (Living the Good News) now gather in-person each Sunday at 10:20 a.m., downstairs in our children’s area.

  • In-person Godly Play also starts at 10:20 am downstairs.

During our 10:30 am worship service, the children start with Godly Play and Sunday School for about 30 minutes, and then they are brought into the Sanctuary during The Peace to rejoin their families and participate in the Eucharist.

Kids are always welcome in our worship services, wiggles and noises and all, but if children become restless and parents prefer to take them out of the sanctuary, parents may sit with their children in the narthex (hallway). The service can still be heard on speakers, and busy bags are available to use during the service and can be returned upon leaving the Sanctuary.

Classroom Details

We are excited to incorporate an expanded Godly Play program for our children aged 3 years and potty-trained through 2nd grade. It is an imaginative approach to working with children, an approach that supports, challenges, nourishes and guides their spiritual journey. In Godly Play, we enter into parables, sacred stories and sacred liturgy in order to discover God, ourselves, one another and the world around us.

The 3rd through 5th graders are using Living the Good News curriculum which is liturgically based (it follows the church's teaching schedule).

For the well-being of all children, parents should only bring healthy children to a classroom. Any child who has potentially been exposed to COVID or is having any COVID symptoms needs to stay home. In addition, any child who has experienced the following symptoms in the last 24 hours needs to stay home:

  • on antibiotics less than 24 hours,

  • fever,

  • diarrhea,

  • vomiting,

  • congested cough,

  • runny nose with a cold, or

  • pink eye.
